Ava's 4th Birthday Party

Ava's 4th birthday party was last weekend so I thought I'd post a few pictures from the festivities.

First off let's start with the invitation...

Ava decided to make a hand drawn copy of the invitation!

I know... it's hard to tell the difference!

As Ava loves to draw and wanted to help out with the party preparations I had her draw pictures on all of the lolly bags for her guests. Her pictures varied from fairies, flowers, suns and rainbows to rockets, cars and "Ben 10" depending on the guest.  This was a cute way to personalise the lolly bags and Ava really felt like she was helping out. As you can see from the photos below they came out quite well.

As well as being creative with the invitations and lolly bags I decided to make a piñata for the party and pinwheels for the kids to play with. Instructions for the piñata can be found here. Instructions for the pinwheels will be coming shortly. It was quite a windy day in the park for Ava's party so the pinwheels spun nicely in the breeze. The kids loved them and they were relatively simple to make.

And then of course, there was the cake. Ava had been asking for a Hello Kitty cake for quite some time and luckily it was a fairly simple shape to make. This was the first time that I had ever used ready to roll fondant icing but I must say it was a lot easier than I expected it to be. I will definitely be using it again - in part because I was told that I'd need a 2kg pack and in actual fact I could have done with 500gm! It's a good thing it freezes!

Unfortunately being such a windy day we couldn't get the candles to light at all. Ava had to just pretend to blow candles out after we sang Happy Birthday. I wonder if her birthday wish will still come true?

Last year for Ava's birthday party we had a face painter but this year I thought that might just be a bit much. So instead I opted for these fantastic temporary tattoos that I came across called Monster Hands
I purchased mine from one of my favourite online children's store called The Tribe Store however they are now not showing on their webpage. Maybe I bought all their stock!

Anyway, they are a great idea however most of the children's hands were a little small for the tattoos to fit properly. Either that or they fit but the children wouldn't keep their hands still while I was trying to apply them! I'd probably recommend them for ages five and up.

We also had Pass the Parcel for the kids and we were going to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey but ran out of time. The party was held in a park near our house which has quite a good playground. Trying to get the kids all together for anything was a bit of a struggle as they all wanted to play on the playground!

All in all it was a great day. Beautiful weather (apart from the wind!), yummy food and fantastic friends. What more could you ask for?

Happy birthday to my big four year old xx
