San Francisco Pride Parade 2017

It's been a little while since I posted here on Little Hiccups. The girls are home with me all day on Summer vacation and we've had visitors from Australia (first friends and then my parents), so I've been kept pretty busy away from the computer. Time to get back to it though and catch you up on some of the fun things we've been up to over the past few weeks - OK, months as I still haven't shared our Denmark trip and you know I've got a ton of photos from that!

Let's start where I left off with the San Francisco Pride parade...

The San Francisco Pride parade was held a couple of weeks back on June 25th. My parents had arrived from Australia a few days before and were excited to join us for this day celebrating love and community.

We arrived in the city shortly after the parade started and found ourselves a good spot along Market Street near Second Street. Considering that the parade is very long (it lasted over four hours!) we wanted to be close to the start. Towards the start of the parade there was a little political action, and my parents weren't quite sure what to expect, but after not long the parade was the colorful celebration we had seen last year with balloons, floats, confetti, crazy outfits, flags and lots and lots of goodies for the kids.

Let's take a look at all the fun and color of the San Francisco Pride parade - or, as Lola and Mathilde like to call it, the Rainbow and Nudies parade! Prepare for lots of rainbows and the occasional nudie...

Nudie alert! I'll spare you the more, umm... graphic front on photos that I snapped of these two and go with this one. The older guy stopped right near us at one point and gave us his best helicopter imitation. I'll leave that one to your imagination!

OK, back to the corporate floats, community groups and local services...

Mum was pretty excited about our celebrity spotting, especially seeing as it was a fellow Australian! Guy Pearce stopped by us for a while and Mum made sure to let him know that we're Australian too.

The girls spent most of the time standing up watching the parade, but every now and then they needed to sit down on the curb for a snack break - and to go through their ever expanding pile of Pride swag. They got some seriously fun stuff this year including plush toys, flags, sunglasses, badges, slap bands, bracelets, necklaces, candy, stickers, tattoos, a feather boa and even a pair of light up fairy wings!

Amid all of the color of the parade there were some pretty crazy costumes and outfits, some a little more risque or kinky than the others.

And of course, there were those completely lacking of any attire. More nudies!

We all had such a fun time at the Pride parade. It was definitely a long day and the kids were tired by the end of the parade, but they really enjoyed it - even if Mathilde doesn't look like it in the photo below! She just didn't want to pose for a photo for fear of missing out on Pride swag while I was holding her!

Did you go to a Pride parade this year, or have you been to one in the past? This was our second time watching the Pride parade in San Francisco and I'm sure it won't be the last.

You can find details of the girls' colorful outfits here.
