All day I've been seeing photos appear on Facebook of my friends ringing in the new year back home in Australia and I felt a little like I was living in the past. Well, for about half a day we were in different years!
A few hours ago it was finally our turn here in California. San Francisco celebrated the start of the new year with a spectacular fireworks display. The roof top garden of our apartment in Berkeley was the perfect viewing spot for said fireworks and, just like last New Year's Eve, I discovered that hardly anyone in our building was home to make use of it! Apart from a handful of revellers taking in the fireworks I pretty much had the roof to myself as I snapped away with my camera. Fourth of July had been a different story with the roof completely packed for the fireworks display so I was glad that this New Year's Eve was the same as the last.

Earlier in the night the girls had celebrated the coming of the new year a little early. We watched the ball drop in Times Square, New York at 9pm our time and the girls rang in the new year with a glass of bubbly - bubble apple juice that is! In the past Ava has not been too fussed about New Year's Eve however this year she was quite excited. I had to laugh when she asked me "Do we celebrate New Year's Eve because tomorrow is the world's birthday? Is tomorrow the anniversary of when the world was born?". Quite a clever thing to come up with I think. I may or may not be a little biased about her being clever ;)

Even earlier in the night we had another little celebration. Kim's birthday just happens to be New Year's Eve so we celebrated with a delicious chocolate cake that the girls and I made.
Happy birthday Kim |
Happy New Year everyone! I'll leave you with a few more photos of those spectacular fireworks over San Francisco...

Happy birthday, Kim! Amazing photos, Sally! Still using your micro4/3rds? Amazing! I still want one of them!
ReplyDeleteStill using the same camera. Well, actually, it's almost the same one... Our camera died less than a week before our trip to Disneyland! Luckily we had just enough time to order a new one through Amazon before we left for Anaheim. As the lenses were all still fine we just ordered a replacement camera body. So now we have the newer model. It works a little differently to the old one so I'm still trying to work out how to use a lot of the features. I must admit that I miss the simplicity of the old one though...
