Pumpkins, pumpkins, everywhere...

Yesterday Lola's preschool class had a field trip to a local greengrocer.

That may not sound like the most exciting place to visit but when you see the giant pumpkin pile below you'll see why it actually was an exciting place to visit.

Every Autumn a mountain of pumpkins can be found at Monterey Market here in Berkeley. It's a favourite place for local kids to visit and climb the pumpkins. And it's a great spot for photo opportunities!

Lola and her little school friends had a great time climbing, playing, and even pretending to swim on the pumpkins. Mathilde joined in the fun too!

After we walked Lola and her class back to school Mathilde and I headed back to Monterey Market to grab some breakfast. As we were leaving we spotted this gigantic pumpkin around the side. Look at how HUGE that thing is! It always amazes me that vegetables can grow to such immense sizes. Mathilde was pretty happy about laying on top of the giant pumpkin, although I was a little worried that she might decide to roll off. That's a long way down.

If you're in Berkeley and have little kids you should definitely drop by Monterey Market for a climb on the pumpkins. There's a staircase to make it easier for the kids to climb up and a hay bale walkway around the edge.

Oh, and it's a great place to buy pumpkins (and all your other produce) too!

Monterey Market is located at 1550 Hopkins Street, Berkeley.
