Pumpkin Patch 2014

A few weekends back we visited Petaluma Pumpkin Patch to pick our pumpkins for Halloween.

Ava and Lola had been looking forward to visiting the pumpkin patch for such a long time. It's one of their favourite things every year. This year we had our friends Kylie, Joel and Sebastian visiting from Australia. We were excited to share such an American institution with them. Plus it was Mathilde's first visit to a pumpkin patch and therefore a huge photo opportunity!

Ava and Lola were both pretty excited to choose their pumpkins and got straight to it. They chose a small pumpkin each plus a large one for Mathilde to sit inside of. Oh, yes, cheesy baby-in-a-pumpkin photos coming soon! The girls also took it in turns pushing each other in the wheelbarrow and tested out their strength trying to lift giant pumpkins.

Petaluma Pumpkin Patch features plenty of other fun Fall themed activities for kids (and adults). Ava and Lola remembered the corn box from our first visit in 2012 and were eager dive straight in. The corn box is like a sand box but with dried corn kernels rather than sand. It's super smooth, feels nice and cool, and best of all, it doesn't get stuck everywhere like sand does. The only downside was that the kernels were tempting for Mathilde to pick up and put in her mouth. She tried to eat it a few times, but for the most part Mathilde was just pretty happy to sit and watch the bigger kids try to bury each other.

The other big highlight of the pumpkin patch was the corn maze. We spent quite some time walking around in the shade of the corn. Ava attempted to direct us out but realised quickly that she couldn't read the map! Good thing the grown ups could.

We had a lovely day out at the pumpkin patch. It's such a fun American tradition and I'm so glad we got to share it with Kylie, Joel and Sebastian.

More pumpkin fun coming up soon...
