Macy's Flower Show 2015

Earlier this week we headed into the city to check out the Macy's Flower Show. Each year, to celebrate the arrival of Spring, Macy's hold a flower show in many of their stores around the country. The flower show in San Francisco's Union Square store is always beautiful. This year's theme, Art in Bloom, brings together the worlds of art and floral design.

The main floor of Macy's is transformed into a series of gardens each based on a particular art movement. The cosmetics department features an abstract garden with masses of flowering plants above the make up and skin care counters.

The fragrances department features a pop art garden with large letters spelling out the word "Bloom" down the center of the room.

The watches department features a cubist garden with succulents and drought tolerant plants. This was my favorite garden.

The handbags and jewelry departments feature an impressionist garden with half framed still life displays.

From the entrance on Geary Street visitors are met with a replica of Michelangelo's David on to which a light show projects an ever changing floral display.

The displays continue upstairs with a Fashionable Art Masterpieces display on level three created by students at FIDM San Francisco.

Further upstairs on level six there are a few more displays featured in the tableware department.  I love all of those hanging succulents and airplants.

The displays continue in the windows facing O'Farrell and Stockton Streets.

After we took in the floral and artistic displays in the store we headed to Union Square to let the kids have a little run around. Ava and Lola had fun playing hide and seek while Mathilde spent her time chasing pigeons. I'm not sure what she would've done had she successfully caught one!

Macy's Flower Show finishes this Saturday, April 4th. A host of activities will be available for visitors throughout the afternoon including a family fun day, a plant workshop and a musical performance.

Select plants and flowers from the show will be available for sale on at 9am, Tuesday April 7th at Piers 30/32.
