One of the best things about our trip to Australia was having the chance to catch up with old friends.
We had the chance to catch up with lots of friends and family all together at our Fourth of July party which was great. But we also took the time to have a few one on ones (or as close to when you have three kids!) with a few special friends.
Later that same day we headed to Nina's house in the hills for dinner and a catch up with other friends from our mum's group. The kids might not have all remembered each other at first but they sure did have fun playing together - and eating lots of candy, which seems to have been a theme of the day! Us mums had a great time catching up too.
During our stay in Adelaide I also got to go out for a rare child-free girls' day. I think the last time that happened was my baby shower for Mathilde! My two besties Kylie and Marta picked me up from the farmer's markets where we'd taken the girls to play with friends, and we hit up a swanky new bar for lunch. A bar may not sound like the best place for our little group considering that I'm nursing and Kylie is almost eight months pregnant, but it was such a great spot. We sat outside on a roof deck overlooking the city and enjoyed the views and the Winter sun. Later we did a little shopping and then stopped for coffee. We discovered that a dingy old coffee shop that Marta and I used to frequent in our "gothically-inclined" younger days (back in the 90s) had reopened so we dropped by for old times' sake. Nothing much had changed about it apart from the fact that it's now a dingy little bar rather than a dingy little coffee shop!
It was so great to be able to catch up with so many wonderful friends during our time in Adelaide. We're back home in Berkeley now and all of our family and most of our friends are half a world away. Hooray for the internet so we can keep in touch!
