30+ Simple Elf on the Shelf Ideas

It's almost that time of year again when Elfie Pokie Nokie, our Elf on the Shelf, makes his appearance in our home.

Every year I try to come up with fun situations for the girls to find Elfie Pokie Nokie in each morning. They've found him making coffee, tangled in Christmas lights, pilfering candy from a Halloween bucket, playing board games with other toys, dancing ballet, stealing a kiss from Barbie under the mistletoe, hanging out in the fridge, and many other crazy situations. The girls are always excited to find what Elfie Pokie Nokie has been up to over night while they sleep.

I know it can be a little tricky to come up with ideas for the Elf on the Shelf sometimes, especially when you wake up early before the kids and realize that you forgot to move him the night before. Trust me, I've been there plenty of times! I've put together more than thirty of my favorite Elf on the Shelf ideas from the last few years to help inspire you and your own elf. Enjoy!

Some days the girls find Elfie Pokie Nokie just relaxing. He might be reading a newspaper while eating breakfast, enjoying a cupcake in Lola's mini Sprinkles store, making himself a coffee, watching the rain outside the window, chilling in the fridge, playing guitar, reading a book with a friend, or even taking a bath!

Other days Elfie Pokie Nokie was found playing with the other toys. A card game here, a board game there, a little ballet, fun with a puzzle and building with Lego. Elfie Pokie Nokie knows how to have fun.

Some days we found Elfie Pokie Nokie working on a holiday activity, usually the same one that would appear in our advent calendar that day. Our cheeky elf obviously sneaks a peak in the advent calendar! We've found him ready to bake honey biscuits, hanging ornaments, wrapping gifts, cutting paper snowflakes, preparing to build a gingerbread house, and playing with a dreidel for Hanukkah.

That elf of ours can be pretty cheeky, so it's common that we find him getting into trouble or doing something silly. Lola is always worried that she's going to find Elfie Pokie Nokie going through her Halloween candy again - he always does it! We've also found him tangled in Christmas lights, wearing googly eyes, trying to sneak off to school in Ava's backpack, trying to catch a fish in our aquarium, hiding in a stack of toilet paper, trying to sneak a bite of Ava and Lola's gingerbread men, hiding on the coat rack, stowing away in our luggage, and caught in a passionate embrace with Barbie under the mistletoe!

For all of Elfie Pokie Nokie's cheekiness he does have a good side. On Christmas Day he appears in our home one last time with letters for the girls from Santa. Then at the end of the day he returns to the North Pole for another year, taking with him thank you letters that the girls have written to Santa.

Elfie Pokie Nokie will arrive in our home on the first day of December. He always makes his appearance in our advent calendar, which is also his last stop on Christmas Day. The girls can't wait to see Elfie Pokie Nokie again and they're looking forward to what he gets up to this year. As always, I'll be posting a week by week update of Elfie Pokie Nokie's antics. I'm sure he's going to be getting himself into some silly situations again!

Does your family have an Elf on the Shelf? If so, does he get into silly situations like ours? I'd love to hear what he/she does in your home.
