I'm a little behind with my weekly post so this one is almost two weeks old. Oops!
A few Fridays back the girls and I got into the Christmas spirit by attending the annual Christmas tree lighting festivities at Oakland's Jack London Square.
We arrived a little late thanks to BART delays leaving us waiting on the platform for quite some time in Berkeley, but the girls enjoyed the night even though we missed the official "lights on" moment.
The tree at Jack London square is so pretty. It stands around 55 feet high and twinkles with 5,000 lights. The girls loved posing for photos in front of it. Unfortunately, Lola scratched her face on the way to Jack London Square and insisted on wearing a completely unnecessary (and huge) bandaid to cover it up. She was convinced that it matched her skin color! Yeah, umm... I can't see it at all! She did take it off before we saw Santa though.
The highlight of the night for the girls was the live reindeer on display. The girls were desperate to pat the reindeer but they were also a little scared of those antlers so they stayed back a little.
There was plenty of festive music to keep us entertained. Lola in particular enjoyed dancing along.
Of course, the biggest moment for any Christmas event is meeting Santa. At this particular event Santa was inside a vintage Airstream caravan. Ava and Lola were excited to see him, but Mathilde wasn't quite so sure.
The Christmas tree at Jack London Square will remain on display throughout the holiday season. Now until December 23rd there will be holiday caroling throughout the square from 6:15pm to 7:45pm.
Hooray for the holidays!
