A Peanuts Party Invitation

Can you believe it? 

Tomorrow my oldest baby turns Nine! Nine! I still can't wrap my head around it. She's not a little girl anymore. She's a big girl. A tween even - maybe. How old is a tween? I have no idea. All I know is that she's growing up too quickly.

To celebrate Ava's ninth birthday we'll be having a Peanuts themed party with her friends on Saturday. Ava chose the theme and she is really excited about it. I actually half expected her to chose a Minecraft theme as she's really into Minecraft at the moment (aren't all almost nine year olds?) so I was pleasantly surprised when she told me she wanted a Peanuts party.

I am working on all sorts of fun Peanuts themed DIYs for the party and I can't wait to share them with you next week, but for now let's have a look at the party invitations.

I really like the idea of the invitation being a comic strip. It's simple, instantly recognizable and it looks great in black and white. At first Ava and I went through her Peanuts comic books looking for a strip featuring a few more of the characters. Maybe Charlie Brown talking to Lucy and Linus. Or Marcy and Peppermint Patty chatting in the classroom. But then we noticed that most Peanuts comic strips end with the characters looking confused or annoyed in the last square! Especially Charlie Brown! How had I not noticed that before? I guess the reader is left laughing but the characters are generally not. Anyway, it didn't feel quite right to print invitations with anything other than happy looking characters at the end so we decided to make it extra simple and go with Snoopy writing his book. Of course, in this case rather than typing "It was a dark and stormy night..." Snoopy is typing the party details.   

Seeing as the invitation is so simple I decided to give it an extra touch by making it a tri-fold that can stand up. This also made it easier to fit into envelopes! I printed the invitations onto 110lb card-stock which stands up nicely.

I chose charcoal colored envelopes that matched the print color well and printed matching labels with Snoopy typing the guest's name.
