Ever since Mathilde was a little baby she's been wearing the same shoes. Well, not the same pair, of course, because, well... that would be weird! After all, her feet have grown just a bit since she was a baby! Rather, she's been wearing the same style and brand of shoes since she was a little baby. And guess what? I'm giving Little Hiccups readers a chance to win a pair for their own little one! Keep reading for details on how to enter.
Because Mathilde's feet were so tiny, she didn't fit into her first pair of moccasins until she was five months old and already crawling. They were a little big at first and I worried that she would lose them, but just as all those reviews I had read while pregnant said, Freshly Picked moccasins really do stay on. Don't ask me how, because they were quite loose around her little ankles for quite some time, but those cute little moccasins just stayed put. Perfect for an early crawler on the go like Mathilde.
Mathilde wore that first pair of moccasins until just after her first birthday when she finally moved up a size. Her first pair saw so many of her firsts. She wore them as she learned to pull herself up to standing and cruise along furniture. She wore them for her first Christmas. She wore them when she learned to stand on her own. She took her first steps in them. Then months later, she celebrated her first birthday in them. Despite the fact that she had been wearing her moccasins for 7 months (crawling the whole time and walking for 2 months) her first pair of moccasins held up really well. Sure, they were a little scuffed on the toes and heels, but they were still wearable unlike shoes that Ava and Lola had worn (and destroyed!) at the same age. And the soles? Well, imprinted on those little soles were the sweetest little footprints you could possibly imagine. I think that's one of my favorite things about Freshly Picked moccasins. The footprints that become imprinted on the bottom are such a precious memory.
Mathilde's first pair of moccasins were such perfect shoes for her that I kept buying her more pairs as her feet grew. Here she is now, at 27 months old, and still wearing moccasins most days. By the time both Ava and Lola were 18 months old I had switched them from soft soled shoes to shoes with a little more structure, believing that their little feet needed extra protection in the form of harder soles. I had always presumed that I'd do the same with Mathilde, but to be honest, her moccasins have always provided enough protection for her feet. She has never once complained of sore feet or of them rubbing like she has with hard sole shoes. She's a city girl and walks or rides her balance bike miles a day on sidewalks, and her Freshly Picked moccasins have never let us down. She wears them on grass, in dirt, on rocks, and, occasionally, in puddles, and no matter how dirty they get, they always clean up fine. Sure, they get a little scuffed as she's so active, but most marks clean right off, and those that don't just remind us of her adventures.
