Last week Mathilde and I took a trip into the city to visit Macy's for the annual Flower Show. The Macy's Flower Show is something I looked forward to seeing every Spring and this year's display did not disappoint - although there were a few scary clowns! Clowns, you ask? Well, every year the Flower Shows features a different theme and this year's theme is carnival, so the displays are filled with clowns, carousel horses, vintage arcade games and side show novelties. Let's take a look...
As always, we decided to check out the window displays before entering the store. Mathilde was excited to see carousel animals including a pig, an ostrich and a horse. The ring master, acrobat and side show act displays were quite impressive too.
We headed inside to the cosmetics department and Mathilde was pretty happy to see another horse straight away. The twinkling lights and beautiful flowers also caught her attention, but nothing could be better than a horse in my pony loving girl's opinion.
We made our way down the three main aisles of the cosmetics department and were treated to the sight of beautiful floral displays the whole way along. The flowers are always so beautifully displayed. A large range of flowers in many different colors are featured as well as plenty of lush foliage. The natural beauty is interspersed with carnival paraphernalia including, yes, you guessed it, the odd scary clown or two! Seriously, those purple clowns! What were they thinking?
This flowers continued into the watch department with a Tunnel of Love display featuring a swan boat which Mathilde was keen to try and ride. Good thing it's up high where she can't reach!
We then moved into the jewelry, handbags and accessories department where the centerpiece of the show is on display at the bottom of the escalators. This year's center piece display features a carousel with a mirrored zoetrope that spins and creates the illusion of horses going around. All around the base of the display are beautiful potted flowering plants. Pastel colored carousel horses along the escalators and above the two center stands complete the display. Pony loving Mathilde was pretty excited about this particular display.
While the carousel display was a hit with Mathilde, the nearby "Laughing Sal" was most definitely not! I've got to say that I've never been a fan of this vintage side show display either and I can see how she found it scary. It may not look particularly big in the photo below, but it's pretty much life size and the laugh it makes is not the sweetest of sounds. You can see one on display at the entrance of the Musee Machanique at Fisherman's Wharf.
The rest of the displays in the accessories department were very pretty and featured acrobats and a ferris wheel.
The Macy's Flower Show continues through the end of this week, finishing up on Sunday April 9th. For more information visit www.macys.com/flower-show/
