I'm back with another Studio Ghibli inspired post! It's an easy one that you just might be able to make from items already in your closet along with a few simple accessories.

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of our favorite Studio Ghibli movies. It's such a sweet story and the characters are so likeable. I mean, what's not to love about a friendly witch who delivers baked goods on her broom with her adorable black cat in tow?

Both Lola and Mathilde were keen to dress up for this one, so while Lola dressed as Kiki, Mathilde dressed as Jiji, Kiki's cat!

First let's take a look at Kiki's costume...

What you'll need:

For Kiki's outfit I dressed Lola in a short sleeved navy dress and added a cross body brown bag from my closet. I placed a plush Jiji cat in the bag for photos without Mathilde as her sidekick. To make Kiki's headband I made a large bow out of wired ribbon and used a hot glue gun to attach it to a headband wrapped in red satin ribbon. There are plenty of bow headbands available if you wish to purchase a premade one instead. The finishing touch to the Kiki costume is a straw broom.

And now for Jiji...

The base of Jiji's costume is simply long black pajamas or a long sleeved black top and black leggings. For the tail I cut a long strip of black felt, folded it in half and glued it down. I then trimmed the end to make it tapered toward a point. To attach the tail I simply used a safety pin to attach it to the waist band of the leggings.

For the ears I folded a piece of black felt in half and cut out an ear shape making sure to include both layers with the bottom of the ear along the fold. I repeated this for the second ear. I then opened each ear and placed a headband along the fold in the middle. I folded one layer of the ear up to meet the other securing it with hot glue. As the hot glue dries solid it holds the ears up in place. You can find a step by step DIY for Mickey Mouse ears using the same technique here.

Mathilde then hopped aboard the broom with Lola and they were ready to fly!

One more Studio Ghibli inspired costume coming up!
