Earth Illuminated

 Happy Earth Day!

Today I'm sharing a fun exhibition that merges three of my favorite things: Mother Nature, immersive art and photography! You know I love a good excuse for taking lots of pics!

Earth Illuminated is an immersive art exhibition in Denver that focuses on the beauty of nature and the impact that humans have on the environment. With oversized insect and plant sculptures, floral wall panels, thought provoking murals, neon lights, honeycomb walls, and projections, there's something fun to see and experience at every turn.

Lola, Mathilde and I visited Earth Illuminated last week and we had a blast checking out all of the installations, and as always, I took a gazillion photos to share with you! Let's take a look...

Earth Illuminated features 13,000 square feet of fun displays, each one just waiting for a guest to snap a pic with it. Some of the displays are interactive with props such as the suspended umbrella below and seating, while others simply serve as a fun backdrop for selfies. Or, in my case, pics of the kids. I did manage to get into a few photos myself this time but I'm definitely no pro when it comes to selfies!

One of the main attractions at Earth Illuminated is the oversized insect and plant sculptures. Many of these are made of metal and exist as a framework of the creature or plant with colorful lighting highlighting the features. Some are smaller (but still oversized) and made of wood. Others are made of artificial plants and flowers and reminded me of the floral animal sculptures on Insel Mainau on the Bodensee (Lake Constance) in Germany.

There are several neon light displays and screens with nature footage that make fun selfie backdrops.

A (not in use) bar area features large lighted jellyfish sculptures hanging from the ceiling, a sparkling mirrored wall and giant seaweed sculptures surrounding the area. The kids had fun sitting here pretending to order food and drinks from an imaginary bartender.

Now, you've probably noticed that there are a mix of masked and unmasked photos here. In line with Colorado requirements, Earth Illuminated has several safety measures in place to keep the risk of covid low. Masks are required at all times apart from when taking photos. Hand sanitizer stations are located within the museum and there are markings on the floor to help with social distancing. Timed tickets must be purchased in advance to keep visitor numbers low at all times.
