Monster to Midnight at Distortions Monster World

Halloween is just a few sleeps away but there's still time to get your spook on at some fun venues around Denver. This past weekend the girls and I went and checked out a fun and rather spooky exhibition in the city: Monster to Midnight at Distortions Monster World!

If you're a fan of horror movies and all things creepy, then Distortions Monster World is for you! This interactive selfie museum is filled with all sorts of aliens, monsters, horror movie characters, and props all hand made by Distortions Unlimited.

The museum is fun at any time of year, but in the lead up to Halloween things get extra spooky with the evening event Monster to Midnight.

During Monster to Midnight visitors are led through Distortions Monster World by a host of characters, some friendly and some more than a little creepy. The exhibition starts with a little education. Upon entering we learned how the latex masks, monsters and creatures are made by Distortions Unlimited. We saw the clay, the molds, the masks in various stages of being painted, and, of course, the finished product. At each new turn in the exhibition we were met by a different character who showed us the displays in their area. We were led through the displays by a witch, an executioner, a few mad scientists, and some other spooky folk. We interacted with the displays and, of course, posed for lots of fun photos. Because this is a family friendly event most of the characters we encountered weren't overly scary. Monster repellant (in the form of a glowstick worn on the arm) is available for any visitors who prefer not to be spooked at all. Mathilde was a little worried at first so she went with the monster repellant, while Lola and I gave it a miss.

The girls favorite parts of our visit to Monster to Midnight were when Mathilde was almost part of an alien experiment (she managed to escape!) and when Lola had her head in a guillotine. Just like Mathilde and the alien, Lola escaped unharmed (despite Mathilde's best attempts!), but poor Alice Cooper didn't seem so lucky!

These were my favorite moments too, but I also really liked seeing the alien from the Alien films. This area was set up like a movie set. The girls weren't familiar with the Alien movies so they weren't sure what was going on, but they were impressed by the giant alien none the less.
