It's that time of year again...
That time of year when Gaylord Rockies Resort in Aurora comes alive with Christmas fun!
It really doesn't feel that long ago that we were at the Gaylord Rockies last year celebrating the holiday season and yet here we are again celebrating all the festive fun that Gaylord Rockies has to offer. This year really has flown by.
Recently the kids and I spent an evening at Gaylord Rockies checking out their holiday events. We helped Buddy the elf save Christmas, we watched acrobats and magicians, we strolled through the colorful light displays, we ice skated under twinkling lights, we slid down the tubing hill and we ate lots of tasty treats.
Let's take a look at the fun...
We started our visit to Gaylord Rockies by checking out this year's interactive display, Mission: Save Christmas featuring Elf. This fun exhibition includes hands on scenes from through the Elf movie. We started in Santa's workshop where there were fun toy making games to play and then we moved onto a bakery where we made virtual cookies. A hop, skip and a jump away we found ourselves in a New York City department store complete with holiday displays, paper decorations, Santa's chair and, the highlight of the room, giant pianos to play with our feet. Then we headed "outside" for a snowball fight and playing Christmas carols. The whole way through the exhibition we were on a mission to save Christmas by spreading Christmas cheer. We definitely did it!
After we'd made our way through Mission: Save Christmas, we grabbed some dinner and settled in to watch the amazing Cirque Dream Holidaze show. This fun circus had us all in awe at the acrobatic performances, magic tricks, dance numbers, and mind blowing skills of the performers. It really was such a fun show for the whole family.
Then we hit Gaylord Rockies' outdoor attraction, Glacier Point. We tubed down the giant slide and went ice skating. We were running out of time at this point, so we didn't get a chance to try out all of the attractions, but as well as the giant slide and the ice skating you'll find mini golf, snow play, a tubing carousel, and ice bumper cars. The ice bumper cars had been the highlight of previous visits and the kids were super excited to go for another spin, but they weren't available when we visited. I have heard from others who have visited since then that the ice bumper cars are indeed back again (just not the evening we visited).
We ended our evening at Gaylord Rockies with a walk around the grounds to check out the holiday light display simply called Light! While the name might be simple, the light display is anything but. We found twinkling light tunnels, interactive light and sound displays, trees covered in thousands of lighted blossoms, a glowing glasshouse, intricate lanterns and so much more. The light displays are stunning and definitely worth checking out.
The light displays continue indoors with decorations and twinkling lights throughout. The main attraction, however, is the giant tree in the atrium area. This stunning tree sits on a platform over the water creating beautiful twinkling reflections.
Gaylord Rockies is a wonderful place to spend a day or two during the holidays. There is something for the whole family here. As well as the activities that I've shared above visitors will find so much more. There's a holiday marketplace complete with gingerbread house and cookie decorating, brunch with Snoopy, holiday stories with Mrs Claus, visits with Santa, scavenger hunts, an escape room, and all the resort regulars including pool facilities and a relaxing spa.
With so much on offer I really recommend staying for at least one night in order to spread the activities over two days.
