Where to Find Street Art in Phoenix

By now I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I'm a BIG fan of street art.

I'm also a big fan of traveling.

So when I come across fun street art while on vacation I'm in heaven! Nothing like combining two of your favorite things, right?

Our recent trip to Phoenix, Arizona over Spring Break turned out to be one such trip. I already knew that Phoenix was home to some pretty great street art, but I was not prepared for just how much of it there would be. Spoiler alert... Phoenix has a LOT of street art!

Today I'm sharing some of my favorite street art finds from our time in Phoenix.

There's a lot of great street art to be found all throughout Phoenix, and taking a drive or walk in ay direction is sure to lead you to some colorful walls. It was pretty hot already when we visited Phoenix over Spring Break and it's a pretty sprawled city, so before we headed out for the day I did a little research online and found particular murals and areas I wanted to go check out. Usually I'm more of a "wander around and see what we find" kind of girl, but I'm also not a fan of heat, so being prepared made things a lot easier.

Here are some of the must see murals around Phoenix...

Prince Mural
This stunning mural is a must see for Prince fans - and who isn't a Prince fan? It's such a wonderful tribute to one of the most iconic musicians of all time with portraits of Prince throughout the years. As an extra touch of fun, the artist Maggie Keane added mirrors as Prince's sunglasses. Right next to the Prince mural you'll find a tribute to other iconic musicians who left us too early including Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, John Lennon and Selena.

The Prince mural can be found at 1350 W Roosevelt Street, Phoenix.

David Bowie Mural
From one music legend to another! Artist Maggie Keane's David Bowie mural is another must see for music lovers. A series of eight portraits depict David Bowie throughout the years and his many different personas and characters. He truly was a chameleon.

You can find the David Bowie mural in the parking lot at 1755 N 7th Street, Phoenix.

CALLE 16
The 16th Street neighborhood around popular Phoenix restaurant Barrio Café is home to a wealth of street art that celebrates Mexican American culture. We didn't get a chance to eat at Barrio Café while we were there but we did make sure to check out all of the fantastic murals that surround the café and neighboring businesses and homes. Many of the murals here, including the popular "Phoenix" mural are by Barrio Café chef Silvana Salcido Esparza who works with artists and community leaders through Calle 16 to elevate popular perceptions of Mexican American culture. Many of the murals here are located in the parking lots behind 16th Street, so if you want to try and get photos without cars avoiding going at dinner time like we did!

The CALLE 16 murals can be found around the block surrounding Barrio Café at 2814 N 16th Street, Phoenix.

Roosevelt Row Arts District
The neighborhood around Roosevelt Street and 2nd Avenue known as Roosevelt Row sure is colorful! This neighborhood is full of restaurants, bars and a LOT of street art. It's a great place to spend an afternoon. We checked out the art around Roosevelt Row after lunch and found a wide variety of murals in the parking lots, down alley ways and on the side of buildings. The art is quite varied but you'll find quite a lot of local flavor mixed in.

Roosevelt Row Visitor Center is located at 918 N 2nd Street, Phoenix. This is a good starting point for exploring the neighborhood.

Historic Grand Avenue
Not all street art is murals. I love it when neighborhoods are decorated with quirky splashes of color in the form of sculptures, yarn bombing, decorative planters and seating etc along with murals. If this sort of street art excited you too make sure to check out Historic Grand Avenue. Located just around the corner from the Prince mural, this stretch of Grand Avenue sure is colorful. You'll find yarn bombed trees along the sidewalk with lanterns made from artificial flowers, plush toys and all sorts of found objects hung over the sidewalk. There are murals, painted sidewalks, and colorfully painted buildings. Many of the stores themselves are rather quirky too.

The color of Historic Grand Avenue starts at 1301 Grand Avenue, Phoenix and extends to Polk Street.
