There's a new museum in Denver and you won't believe your eyes when you see it!
Prepare to have your mind blown!
Is that us hanging upside down in an RTD train car? Is that a giant Mathilde towering over Lola and I? Is that Lola falling through a portal? Is that a multitude of Mathildes? Is that us hanging off the side of an apartment building like Spiderman? Is that a rainbow of shadows? Why, yes. Yes it is! But how?
Read on to find out how we pulled off all of these gravity and reality defying stunts...
If you've been here for a while you'll know that I'm a HUGE fan of immersive exhibitions. Anything that allows us to engage with art in a hands on manner is a winner in my book. When I saw that Museum of Illusions was coming to Denver I just knew that we had to visit.
Museum of Illusions Denver opened up back in October and I'm so excited to share our visit with you. It's a small museum but it's packed full of amazing immersive illusions that really will have you wondering just how they work.
So, just how do they work? Well, without giving away too many secrets, this museum is full of illusions that use mirrors, slanted floors, changed perspectives, special lighting and so much more to fool our brains into thinking we're seeing something very different from what we're actually seeing. As you wander throughout the museum you'll find signs with instructions for how to create each illusion along with markings on the floor showing the best place to stand, both as the subject in the illusion and as the photographer. There are also helpful staff on hand throughout the museum to help with photography and posing tips. They'll also take photos and videos from the best vantage points for you so that no-one misses out on the fun!
While most of the displays at the museum are designed for mind blowing photo and video opportunities, there are also plenty of optical illusions that are purely for looking at. A mural of a skier whose eyes follow you as you move through the room. Shapes that change as you move or appear to go on infinitely. Artworks that appear to spin and change direction the longer you look at them. Objects that seemingly appear out of nowhere. Faces that appear to be looking both straight on and sideways.
You'll also find hands on puzzles and games that kids will enjoy. Mathilde had a lot of fun playing with the giant puzzles below and was especially excited to find smaller versions available in the next room. Can you guess what that room was?
That's right... the gift shop!
Museum of Illusions Denver has a fun little gift shop featuring plenty of puzzles similar to those found on a larger scale throughout the museum. You'll also find prints, postcards, tee shirts and so much more. We took home a few small puzzles, a fridge magnet for my ever expanding collection, and a few fun postcards to send to friends.

Let's dive into all the practical information...
Museum of Illusions Denver is located at 951 16th Street Mall in Denver.
The museum is open seven days a week with varying hours: Sundays through Thursdays from 10am to 9pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 10pm.
Tickets are available online or at the door (depending on availability) and are $24 for adults (13+) and $20 for kids (5 - 12). Kids ages 4 and under are admitted free of charge.
Museum of Illusions Denver is wheelchair friendly for the most part with nice wide walkways, however there are a few exhibits with slanted floors.
Restrooms are available in the museum.
