Wasn't it only just Winter Break? Didn't the school year start, like, yesterday?
If you're in Colorado and planning on staying locally for the break, or if you're visiting Colorado from out of state, I'm here to help you out with some fantastic places to visit while the kids are off school.
Today I'm sharing my favorite indoor adventures with kids. That week off school may be called Spring Break, but that doesn't mean we're guaranteed Spring weather. In fact, in my experience, it tends to be snowy! So it's good to have an arsenal of indoor fun ideas ready for when the weather isn't so great - or for anytime, really. These places are all such fun that you'll want to visit no matter what the weather is like outside!
Let's take a look...
Meow Wolf Convergence Station
Where do I even begin to explain Meow Wolf Convergence Station? It's one of those places that really needs to be seen to be believed. Think of it as an immersive art exhibition combined with a whole new dimension and you're part way there. Convergence Station is like many different worlds contained in the one building. Worlds filled with colors, sounds, creatures, and technology beyond your wildest imagination. I really can't explain it in a way that does it justice, so you'll just have to go see it for yourself.
Convergence Station is located at 1338 1st Street, Denver.

Museum of Illusions
Want to hang upside down in an RTD train car or off the side of a two story building? Ok, those examples aren't so safe in real life, and I definitely don't recommend trying them, BUT they are super fun if they're an illusion! At Museum of Illusions visitors can find themselves creating all sort of strange illusions and images just likes examples. You'll find mirrored rooms that create endless images, optical illusions that will blow your mind, puzzles that will have your brain in a knot, and so much more.
Museum of Illusions is located at 951 16th Street Mall, Denver

Denver's Downtown Aquarium
Denver's Downtown Aquarium is located, you guessed it, right in Downtown Denver. It's a great place to visit in conjunction with nearby attractions such as Elitch Gardens, Meow Wolf and Children's Museum. This aquarium is on the small side compared to others that we have visited but has plenty of aquatic (and not aquatic) life on display. Visitors will find touch pools, a glass tunnel with fish swimming overhead, and a wealth of life in displays ranging from wharves, coral reefs, lagoons, and even deserts.
Denver's Downtown Aquarium is located at 700 Water Street, Denver.

Verse Denver
Got kids who love playing computer games? Verse Denver is a must visit for anyone who enjoys immersing themselves in a digital world. Verse Denver is an augmented reality experience. Like virtual reality, visitors wear a headset through which a digital world can be seen. Unlike virtual reality, the real world can also be seen. This means that there's no need to stay in one place and visitors are able to wander the entire exhibition space on a treasure hunt. There are three different experiences on offer: "Art of the Future" a virtual art gallery, "Starwalk 2.0" which takes players through space, and "The Unreal Garden" which features creatures from land and sea.
Verse Denver is located at Southwest Plaza Mall, 8501 W Bowles Ave, Littleton.

Children's Museum
A Denver institution, Children's Museum has been delighting Colorado kids for since 1973 when it began as a traveling experience. It has been in its current location since 1984 and has seen much growth since that time. With indoor and outdoor attractions, kids you'll find year round fun for toddlers and young kids. My kids are a little old for most of the indoor play areas, but we're keen to visit when the Adventure Forest, the outdoor climbing space, reopens for the season in May.
Children's Museum is located at 2121 Children's Museum Drive, Denver.

It may be grey and chilly outside, but a visit to the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster will make you feel like you've escaped to the tropics! The highlight of any visit is the large butterfly enclosure, where thousands of colorful butterflies flutter among the tropical plants. If you're lucky, one might even land on you! The museum also includes an indoor area with many varieties of insect and arachnid on display. Visitors will have the chance to hold Rosie the tarantula.
