The bears are back in Boulder!
No, not real bears. Those are hopefully still hibernating for the Winter.
I’m talking about the colorful bear sculptures that call Boulder’s Chautauqua Park home each Winter for Art In The Park.
Art In The Park is an annual fundraiser for Chautauqua Park. Each Winter, colorful bear sculptures are auctioned off to raise money for the upkeep of the buildings and grounds of this National Historic Landmark. These fiberglass bear sculptures all start out as the same blank canvas, but thanks talented artists, no two bears end up alike.
This year, as well as the fifteen large bears that can be found outside, there are also an additional ten mini bears on display in buildings throughout the park.
Let’s take a look at this year’s bears…
In previous years, the bear sculptures have been scattered around Chautauqua Park in a sort of scavenger hunt. This year, the large bears are all on display in one spot along Morning Glory Drive opposite the Academic Hall building.
The mini bears are a new addition this year and are on display in buildings throughout the park. You will find most of them in the lobby of the Academic Hall building as well as one each in Chautauqua Dining Hall and Chautauqua General Store. There is also one extra mini bears that I was unable to locate, but I will make sure to update this post once I find it.
The bears will be on display through April 17th 2025.
If you’d like to take part in the fundraising auction, you can find the link to bid here.
The large bears are 48” long x 26” high and 17” wide. The mini bears are 16” long x 9” high x 5 3/4” wide.
Bidding on the large bears starts at $1,000.00 and bidding on the mini bears starts at $300.00.
Bidding on the bears has already started and runs through April 17th 2025.
